Alan Hyman signed End the Crackdown 2012-05-10 01:57:25 -0600

How many promises can one president break? Join with others in calling for an end to the hypocritical Obama crackdown on medical marijuana.

obama_medical_marijuana.jpg

In his typical fashion, President Obama promised when he was campaigning in 2008 that local governments should decide whetherpeople will have access to medical marijuana (now legal in 16 states and D.C.).

Here’s what he said:

“I’m not going to be using Justice Department resources to try to circumvent state laws on this issue.”

Now, his administration is the worst ever on this issue.

Rolling Stone described the situation as follows:

[O]ver the past year, the Obama administration has quietly unleashed a multiagency crackdown on medical cannabis that goes far beyond anything undertaken by George W. Bush.  The feds are busting growers who operate in full compliance with state laws, vowing to seize the property of anyone who dares to even rent to legal pot dispensaries, and threatening to imprison state employees responsible for regulating medical marijuana.  With more than 100 raids on pot dispensaries during his first three years, Obama is now on pace to exceed Bush’s record for medical-marijuana busts.  “There’s no question that Obama’s the worst president on medical marijuana,” says Rob Kampia, executive director of the Marijuana Policy Project.  “He’s gone from first to worst.”

Tim Dickinson, “Obama’s War on Pot,” Rolling Stone (February 16, 2012).

Please add your name to the following letter, demanding of President Obama that he live up to his promise, exercise common sense, and show compassion for patients.

Dear President Obama:

Four years ago, you promised you would not use federal resources to arrest and incarcerate people for growing, selling, or using marijuana for medical purposes in states that have legalized medical marijuana.

You have blatantly broken that promise, creating tremendous confusion and unsafe burdens for medical marijuana growers, sellers, and patients.  As noted in Rolling Stone (February 16, 2012), “The federal crackdown imperils the medical care of the estimated 730,000 patients nationwide – many of them seriously ill or dying – who rely on state-sanctioned marijuana recommended by their doctors.”

Don’t put patients, their doctors, state regulators, and growers in compliance with state laws at risk simply for your political purposes.  Live up to your promises and end the federal crackdown on medical marijuana now.

Sincerely,

The IAEA has been allowed access to a number of nuclear facilities in Iran in order to survey its nuclear technology.  The IAEA Director General has declared that a number of nuclear facilities, which the IAEA now has under observation, are enriching uranium for peaceful purposes.  The Director General is still requesting access to all of Iran's sites that are conducting nuclear research for full validation of Iran's nuclear program.

The constant belligerent rhetoric of the Democrats and Republicans, coupled with Israeli covert operations, has only increased Iran’s antagonistic attitude towards the West. America should not be threatening or condoning overt or covert military actions. We must pursue policies that de-escalate tensions between Iran and The West.

I’m sorry but this is one thing that I just overwhelmingly disagree with progressives on. I think we must first understand the consequences of turning over “Palestine” to Hamas. They are a terrorist organization which in there founding documents calls to the destruction of America and Israel. And has bombed Israel on numerous occasions. When asked to stop they do not, thus making Israel go to war. Because I think we all know the UN and everyone in Europe would blame it all on Israel. On numerous occasion Israel has given them more than enough in return for peace deals. The point is this they don’t want peace, we have to realize it. Until Hamas is gotten rid of and a serious government is put in place, we will continue negotiating with ignorant terrorists who don’t care about there people, but rather destroying Israel.
