This president seems chronically incapable of keeping promises, telling the truth, committing NONVIOLENCE. He seems without conviction, without courage, without moral fiber — all reasons that the people of the United States urgently must, with deliberation, elect and seat leadership (and example) in Federal Washington that is concerned with the country and its people; that takes seriously the promises of the U.S. Constitution to âestablish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterityâ â leadership and example that is competent to serve our nation and cooperate in leading the world, that is unafraid of uprooting the entrenched (and regressive) status quo, and that is substantively and constructively progressive in ethos and ethic.
How many promises can one president break? Join with others in calling for an end to the hypocritical Obama crackdown on medical marijuana.
In his typical fashion, President Obama promised when he was campaigning in 2008 that local governments should decide whetherpeople will have access to medical marijuana (now legal in 16 states and D.C.).
Here’s what he said:
“I’m not going to be using Justice Department resources to try to circumvent state laws on this issue.”
Now, his administration is the worst ever on this issue.
Rolling Stone described the situation as follows:
[O]ver the past year, the Obama administration has quietly unleashed a multiagency crackdown on medical cannabis that goes far beyond anything undertaken by George W. Bush. The feds are busting growers who operate in full compliance with state laws, vowing to seize the property of anyone who dares to even rent to legal pot dispensaries, and threatening to imprison state employees responsible for regulating medical marijuana. With more than 100 raids on pot dispensaries during his first three years, Obama is now on pace to exceed Bush’s record for medical-marijuana busts. “There’s no question that Obama’s the worst president on medical marijuana,” says Rob Kampia, executive director of the Marijuana Policy Project. “He’s gone from first to worst.”
Tim Dickinson, “Obama’s War on Pot,” Rolling Stone (February 16, 2012).
Please add your name to the following letter, demanding of President Obama that he live up to his promise, exercise common sense, and show compassion for patients.
485 signaturesDear President Obama:
Four years ago, you promised you would not use federal resources to arrest and incarcerate people for growing, selling, or using marijuana for medical purposes in states that have legalized medical marijuana.
You have blatantly broken that promise, creating tremendous confusion and unsafe burdens for medical marijuana growers, sellers, and patients. As noted in Rolling Stone (February 16, 2012), “The federal crackdown imperils the medical care of the estimated 730,000 patients nationwide – many of them seriously ill or dying – who rely on state-sanctioned marijuana recommended by their doctors.”
Don’t put patients, their doctors, state regulators, and growers in compliance with state laws at risk simply for your political purposes. Live up to your promises and end the federal crackdown on medical marijuana now.
Sincerely,
Carolyn LaDelle Bennett (Town of Brighton, Rochester area, Monroe County, New York)

The IAEA has been allowed access to a number of nuclear facilities in Iran in order to survey its nuclear technology. The IAEA Director General has declared that a number of nuclear facilities, which the IAEA now has under observation, are enriching uranium for peaceful purposes. The Director General is still requesting access to all of Iran's sites that are conducting nuclear research for full validation of Iran's nuclear program.
The constant belligerent rhetoric of the Democrats and Republicans, coupled with Israeli covert operations, has only increased Iran’s antagonistic attitude towards the West. America should not be threatening or condoning overt or covert military actions. We must pursue policies that de-escalate tensions between Iran and The West.
