Third Party Candidate Rocky Anderson: A "Spoiler" or a Healthy, Moral Alternative for Your Support?

How do you spoil something that is already rotten?

1.  We're stuck in a corrupt game, in which we simply move around the players -- a Democrat here, a Republican there -- each election.  It doesn't matter which of the two parties wins -- we still have a corrupt sytem in which the public interest is betrayed by elected officials who have sold out to the highest bidders.  The rules have been made by the two dominant parties and they thrive from them.  If we're ever going to break out of that perverse game and create a new paradigm where concentrated wealth no longer calls the shots in Washington, we need to vote for a real alternative.  We may not win this election, but each of us can send the message that we won't stand for this diseased plutocracy any more.

Not to make light of any of this, but I saw a cartoon recently that makes the point powerfully: Choosing among the Republican or Democratic candidates for president is like choosing between a window seat or aisle seat . . . on a plane crash.

Our job is to do all we can to save our nation from the plane crash.

2.  We each need to draw our own moral and political line in the sand -- a line beyond which we will not go.  I've drawn my line: Under no circumstances will I vote for anyone who (1) engages in (and ramps up) illegal wars of aggression; (2) sells out to Wall Street, with no accountability for the massive financial fraud that contributed to the crippling economic meltdown; (3) fails to provide leadership on the climate crisis, the gravest challenge facing our planet, with horrendous consequences; (4) targets U.S. citizens for assassination without any semblance of due process; (5) orders drone killings, knowing that hundreds of innocent civilians have been, and will be, killed in the process, in nations where Congress has not authorized acts of war pursuant to the War Power Clause of the Constitution; (6) signs a bill into law providing that our government can round people up, disappear them, incarcerate them for up to the rest of their lives, without charges, trial, legal assistance, or the right of habeas corpus (probably the most un-American act by any president in our nation's history).

I know someone might be worse than such a person, but in every race there will be someone who is worse than the other.  That doesn't mean I will support the other.  There must be a moral line we can each draw that will lead us to say "No," regardless of the other choices. When I'm 80 years old, I want to look back and say I did everything I could to oppose the atrocities, including not supporting even the "lesser evil" among two terrible candidates.

3.  Obama might, in one sense, be the "lesser of two evils," but he is indeed the more effective of the two evils.  If George Bush -- or a Mitt Romney -- were doing the things Obama has done half (or more) of the country (including, I would hope. many Democrats in Congress) would be rising up in vigorous opposition.  Imagine if Bush, Dick Cheney, and Donald Rumsfeld were sitting around in the oval office deciding who would be killed by drones, knowing that hundreds of innocent civilians will also be killed in the process.  Democrats would be demonstrating, holding congressional hearings, and blasting the Republicans for their war crimes and human rights abuses.  However, since Obama has a "D" on his jersey, his teammates (other Democrats) simply remain complacent and fail to voice any opposition, becoming complicit in our nation's war-mongering and march toward totalitarianism. The absence of opposition by both major political parties in the face of the many abuses by the Obama administration is perhaps the most frightening facet of our nation's present circumstances.

Please join with us in saying "No more."  Make your vote count, along with those of many others, to signal your insistence that we eliminate the corrupting influence of money in government and that we restore the rule of law, the system of checks and balance, and fundamental constitutional values.

Rocky Anderson is a dream come true.

Since the major media, including NPR and MSNBC are also under the corporate control, then Rocky and his campaign is going to have to figure out how to get his message out to the people via the internet. It’s going to take exceptional Youtube videos and these will need to go viral. There will have to be a message in these viral videos for those who like Rocky’s (the peoples’ vision) to encourage participation in the democratic process and to demand national news coverage. Rocky needs to be included in the presidential debates and put on the ballot in every state.

The majority of people don’t know he is running. He needs television/internet ads.

I will vote in November for Rocky and in Primary in August in Minnesota too if I am able. Jill Stein is also valid choice yet Rocky is closer to my view and beliefs regarding Social Justice. Mr. Obama no longer is making decisions I thought would be the focus of the Adminstration back in 2008! Vote one’s true values in this upcoming election{s}

If only more people knew of Rocky and supported him instead of the corporate whores like Obama and Romney, there would be hope for our country, which is being flushed down the toilet.

This quote from the economist Jeffrey Sachs last fall sums it up pretty well I think. “America’s revival will come through a new political movement, one that isn’t on the political take, one in which the incumbent President doesn’t feel the compulsion to raise $1 billion in campaign contributions while the leading opposition candidate isn’t yet another corrupt Texas crony [presumably Rick Perry] of the oil industry. The new third party will thrive on free social media, will wade boldly into minority communities and into run-down neighborhoods of the white working class, and will wage a campaign to tax the rich and the corporations to rebuild America at home, not to build the bank accounts of the super-rich in the Cayman Islands and other favorite tax hideaways. ”http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jeffrey-sachs/two-parties-no-solutions_b_966637.html">http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jeffrey-sachs/two-parties-no-solutions_b_966637.html

This video epitomizes what makes Anderson such a remarkable candidate. The man actually thinks about truth and justice instead of mouthing platitudes designed to appeal to the ignorant electorate (ignorant because the MSM keeps them that way). Anderson says what would dawn on a person of normal intelligence if he/she thought deeply and long, and knew the facts as Anderson does. His command of history and logic is truly amazing.

The first thing I hear from virtually anyone I tell about Anderson’s campaign is the “spoiler” argument. I’ve lived through the campaigns of a lot of “spoilers,” but none explained so compellingly why we have to break the major party domination powered by money and corruption. We simply have no hope of ending that domination if we keep voting for the major party candidates.

Another great video, Rocky. Your honesty, integrity, mission for justice, humility, reality perception are presented so eloquently and inspiringly. You are that leader, that voice, that all of us have been waiting for. Please march on: we will follow you.

Love and respect,

@Robert Hillstrom: As far as I am aware Obama was only an average B student.Far from this genius you are trying to portray.I often wondered how he was able to attend Harvard and advance so quickly when there were more suitable choices. I study every candidate for President for myself…and there was always missing periods in Obama’s timeline and questions surrounding how he managed to achieve something. When I read this report, it filled in all the black holes. http://www.opinion-maker.org/2010/08/obama-all-in-the-company-part-i/

@Robert Hillstrom: If you knew anything about Rocky, you would know that Rocky was the only person to call for the impeachment of George Bush. The real lightweight is Obama, who came from virtual obscurity to President, seemingly overnight. He has never tried a real case in his life and what he has done to the Constitution makes we wonder how he claims to be a constitutional attorney. My suggestion Bob is to start educating yourself before making comments that do not make sense. You can read all about Rocky’s accomplishments right here: http://www.voterocky.org/meet_rocky

We will never know how many votes, if any, Nader cost Gore in Florida. But it seems to me Gore’s surprisingly poor performance in the debates turned a comfortable win into a neck-and-neck race. Once you have a close race almost anything can be blamed for a loss including a third party candidate. In retrospect it does seem like Gore made a big mistake distancing himself from Clinton but regardless of his strategy Gore simply is not a good campaigner. The only Democrats to win since 1980 were exceptional campaigners. The others were average or below average.

Basically the D and R parties have us where they want us. Unfortunately, it seems that not enough people care, or are informed to make a third party candidate a viable option. You don’t win by losing. There is no way a third party candidate has a chance at this point. I don’t know if one ever will. Unfortunately there are still tons of liberals and progressives out there that are fooled by democrats. They are either ignorant of what Obama is or they just don’t care.

This boob couldn’t lead a blind man out of a burning house. Like W., who he mentions with respect, he is appealing to those among us who can’t think or understand the most simple concepts. Please, realize that a vote for this light weight is effectively a vote for Romney. Recall, that in his diatribe against the existing political system, the only qualification he proclaims for himself is that he isn’t one of them. He’s running against a pathological liar who managed to put together a vast fortune and our President who has an intellect equal to Romney’s and Rocky’s added together. FOR THE SAKE OF ALL OF US, AND ALL YET TO COME, DON’T DEPRIVE THE PRESIDENT OF A SINGLE VOTE BY VOTING FOR ROCKY. Keep smilin’, Bob Hillstrom

I am so tired of seeing the ignorant postings about how voting for a 3rd party would be a repeat of the 2000 election, how Nader cost Gore the election…..THAT IS BS!!!!!

ONCE AND FOR ALL LETS PUT THIS PROPAGANDA ABOUT NADER “The Spoiler” TO REST: After you read this and check out the links, I want to see this plastered all over the internet.

Time to cut you off the KOOL AID !

a) Gore chose Joe Lieberman for VP which allot of people didn’t care for.

b) Gore distanced himself from Clinton, which a number of people were upset about.

c) Gore won the popular vote by over 500,000, but the Supreme Court over-ruled Florida’s Supreme Court decision to count all the votes, and stopped the count and appointed Bush.

d) Those who voted for Nader would have stayed home if they didn’t have a different choice other than Gore….so Nader didn’t steal any votes from Gore. Those who voted for Nader, would not have voted for Gore anyway.

You should expect to see a repeat of that this year, because the base isn’t turning out for the primaries, every state so far has reported record low democratic voter turnout and Obama is having a hard time of getting 60% of the primary voters. Shows people wanted a different choice for president.

e) Congress is in charge of approving the electoral votes that decides who is President. NOW PAY CLOSE ATTENTION>>>> HERE’S THE TRUTH>>>>> THE DEMOCRATIC SENATE ELECTED BUSH !!!!

Democratic members of the Congressional Black Caucus tried repeatedly to challenge the assignment of Florida’s 25 electoral votes to Bush. More than a dozen Democrats followed suit, seeking to force a debate on the validity of Florida’s vote on the grounds that all votes may not have been counted and that some voters were wrongly denied the right to vote. All they needed was just ONE of the 50 DEMOCRATIC SENATORS to sign onto their objection to stop Bush from being President. Watch C-SPAN video: http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/161423-1

Also here is the transcript from that day: http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0101/06/se.05.html

The Congressional Black Caucus effort failed for lack of the necessary signature by any senator.

Sen. Minority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD) had previously advised Democratic senators not to cooperate. “and They did not.” http://www.wsws.org/articles/2001/jan2001/cong-j08.shtml

Now Do You Have the Story Straight ? Nader had nothing to do with Gore loosing ……it was the DEMOCRATS !!!
